Scope of Work:

The Communication & Partnership Intern is required to undertake the following tasks and activities:

1. Familiarize him/herself with key issues addressed in the GRN-UNICEF Country Programme 2019-2023, UNICEF Branding Regulations, photo guidelines, concept notes, terms of references and workplans.

2. Support and assist with all logistical and administrative planning and preparations and follow up on key activities and advocacy partnership events focused on child rights issues.

3. Using UNISON/Salesforce, maintain data base on the existing and potential Public Private partnerships, and document all relevant past partnerships and MOUs entered into by UNICEF Namibia;

4. Provide quality design and lay-out of information packs for donors and partners and other communication products in line with UNICEF branding requirements and within specified deadlines

5. Deliver creative and innovative ideas for layout and design of various information and communication materials for print, display and electronic media which will be used on the UNICEF Website, social media, and advocacy materials.

6. Manage the photo database for all existing and new photographs and maintain archival photo stock for NCO photo library. When necessary, assist in editing, corrections, resizing and preparing photos using Adobe Photoshop software

7. Draft social media messages based on the monthly themes identified by the section and Follow up and compile monthly reports using available tools and sites to measure UNICEF Namibia Facebook and Twitter influence and usage. 8. Assist with daily media monitoring of newspapers to identify development news and stories highlighting children’s issues, themes and key events and compile, summarize and share articles of interest from daily print media.

9. In addition to these tasks, ad hoc tasks might be requested to support the general work of the Communication and Partnership Section.

 

How can you make a difference?

The purpose of the UNICEF internship programme is to provide a framework by which students pursuing or having recently completely a tertiary education are assigned to UNICEF offices to enhance their education experience through practical work assignments; to expose them to the work of the UNICEF; and to provide UNICEF offices with the assistance of qualified students or recent graduates specialized in various professional fields.

 

Main tasks and responsibilities

The Intern’s main tasks and responsibilities shall include:

  •  Assisting with managing and maintaining UNICEF Namibia social media platforms (Facebook and Twitter), including weekly posting of messages, photos and story contents as per UNICEF Social Media guidelines in line with themes identified and National and global scheduled key events.
  •  Support the Office in exploring options and opportunities for fundraising and leveraging. Based on the availability of funds and needs, liaise with appropriate partners within and outside of UNICEF.
  •  Work closely with the Partnership Specialist to regularly update the Country Office’s partnerships in UNISON/Salesforce and on all social media platforms.

Minimum Qualifications required:

  •  Enrolled or graduated with a university degree in a relevant field such as: marketing, communications, media, social sciences, i.e.., the candidate must be:
    •  enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or
    •  enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent) or
    •  Have graduated with a university degree in the aforementioned areas, and if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation

Eligibility & Minimum requirements

To be considered for the Internship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  •  Proven theoretical and practical experience in graphic communication, including the use of design software such as Adobe InDesign, Adobe Bridge, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Flash and other graphic design software.
  •  Demonstrated experience in digital image processing and management.
  •  Competent with digital technology with a good understanding of new and evolving technologies and digital platforms, such as social media
  •  Knowledge and understanding of social issues especially those affecting children
  •  Awareness and/or experience with UNICEF’s activities in Namibia will be an added advantage
  •  Excellent communication skills – written and spoken English
  •  Possesses strong organizational and detail-oriented skills
  •  Flexibility – ability to work effectively on multiple assignments simultaneously and adapt to changing demands and circumstances.
  •  Have no immediate relatives (e.g. father, mother, brother, sister) working in any UNICEF office; and have no other relatives in the line of authority which the intern will report to.

Conditions

  •  In accordance with UNICEF’s guidelines, all interns will receive a stipend, either by a partner institution or by UNICEF.
  •  There is no expectancy of employment at the end of the internship
  •  UNICEF will not be responsible for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the
    intern’s service, whether on or off UNICEF premises. Therefore, the selected candidate must provide
    proof of enrollment in a health/accident plan prior to start his/her work. If accepted, the intern will be
    required to provide a copy of health insurance coverage and to fill out the relevant UNICEF forms on
    conditions regarding service as an intern
  •  UNICEF may provide relevant documents such as the proof of internship
  •  Interns may take up to 2.5 days per month off work for any reason, including for medical reasons
  •  Interns shall observe all applicable rules, regulations, instructions and procedures and directives of UNICEF.

UNICEF has a zero-tolerance policy on conduct that is incompatible with the aims and objectives of
the United Nations and UNICEF, including sexual exploitation and abuse, sexual harassment, abuse
of authority and discrimination. UNICEF also adheres to strict child safeguarding principles. All
selected candidates will be expected to adhere to these standards and principles and will therefore
undergo rigorous reference and background checks. Background checks will include the verification
of academic credential(s) and employment history. Selected candidates may be required to provide
additional information to conduct a background check.

Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to selected candidates who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their contracts.
