Introduction

The International Labour Organization (ILO) is seeking a Communication Intern to join our team at the ILO Regional Office for Africa (ROAF) in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

ROAF has overall political and management responsibilities for the promotion of ILO principles, policies and decent work priorities in the region as well as provides strategic guidance and support to all Country Offices (COs) and Decent Work Technical Support Teams (DWTs) in Africa. Furthermore, the ROAF is responsible for promoting collaboration on decent work issues with continental institutions like the African Union, African Development Bank and United Nations Economic Commission for Africa. The main objectives of the ILO in Africa are to promote rights at work, encourage decent employment opportunities, promote Labour Migration Governance and Labour Market Information Systems, enhance social protection and strengthen dialogue on work-related issues. In 2019, the International Labour Organization – the oldest UN specialized agency – celebrates its 100th anniversary.

With Africa’s population on the rise, the need for action to tackle child labour through the promotion of decent job opportunities for adults is urgent. Our project aims to address these challenges by working on public policy and good governance, empowerment and representation, partnership and knowledge sharing among global supply chain actors working in Africa, and gender-strategic needs.

As a Communication Intern, you will work on the project “Accelerating action for the elimination of child labour in supply chains in Africa”. The project has the overarching goal to accelerate the elimination of child labour in Africa, through targeted actions in selected supply chains in Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Malawi, Mali, Nigeria and Uganda. Gender is considered as cross-cutting theme; all outcomes will address gender-strategic needs.

The successful candidate will have a strong interest in communication, be a creative and dynamic thinker, and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, resourceful, and able to work collaboratively with a diverse team of professionals.

The intern will report to the Project’s Chief Technical Adviser and the M&E and Knowledge Sharing Officer.
