Org. Setting and Reporting

The United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office supports the work of the Resident Coordinator who leads the UN country team in consultation with the Government to define and agree on the UN strategic response to the Government’s development priorities. This post is in the United Nations Resident Coordinator Office (UNRCO) in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo.

The United Nations Secretary-General launched a new audacious global reform on January 1, 2019, that repositioned the UN development system to be more effective and efficient in achieving the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. As part of this reform, UN Resident Coordinator Offices (UN RCOs), under the leadership of an autonomous and independent UN Resident Coordinator – the highest-ranking official in the UN development system and representative of the UN Secretary General at the country level – support countries in achieving their development priorities and the SDGs. The RCO works closely with all resident and non-resident agencies, funds and programs that make up the UN Country Team in the Republic of Congo. The RCO maintains regular exchanges with DCO and the Secretariat, as well as with the UN regional architecture (e.g., the Economic Commission for Africa) to promote coherent system-wide collaboration with government and institutional authorities, civil society, the private sector, academia, and member states.

As part of its mandate, the UN system provides support to strengthen national and local capacities in planning, promoting and managing sustainable human development. This includes support for institutional and technical capacity building, particularly through substantive advice on economic and innovative policies on the SDGs, as well as providing the country’s authorities with useful and relevant information and analysis to improve the analysis of the socio-economic situation and lead the revival of development in the Republic of Congo. As such, the Office of the Resident Coordinator (RCO) is recruiting an intern for its Economic Unit. The Economic Unit of the RCO Congo Country Office to which the intern will be assigned supports the achievement of all of these development objectives through key and mandated activities related to the NDP (2022-2026) and UNDAF.

The intern will work closely with the RCO Economist. He/she will also collaborate with the colleague in the Monitoring and Evaluation Unit. The intern will also be expected to interact regularly with UN agencies and the RCO’s Congolese state and non-governmental partners in the area of macroeconomic, sectoral and regional analysis and the design and formulation of economic and social development policies and programs as well as with other technical and financial partners in Madagascar.

The UNRCO, Economist internship is for six (6) months.

The Internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities
