Donor & Grants Coordinator*
in Kabul
The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of one year. There are very good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Kabul, Afghanistan.
As Donor & Grants Coordinator, you will support Welthungerhilfe’s (WHH) Afghanistan country program team and the Head of Programs in developing project proposals for short-, medium-, and long-term humanitarian and development programming, and managing grants for a high variety of donors including but not limited to German donors (BMZ, GIZ, GFFO), US donors (USAID, BHA), UK donors (FCDO), as well as UN agencies. Additionally, you will be involved in many programmatic duties and responsibilities and will therefore play an important role in the success of our activities in Afghanistan.
Your responsibilities
- Support the development of donors and grants, as well as stakeholders mapping and the identification, assessment and development of new project ideas and proposals
- Develop expertise on donors´ strategies and facilitate the roll-out of projects, ensuring that the country program complies with donors´ and WHH’s strategies, procedures, and requirements
- Contribute to the identification of co-financing opportunities with the aim to further diversify donor funding
- Liaise with key stakeholders and donors and participate in coordination summits
- Steer the process of grants monitoring in coordination with key stakeholders within the country program
- Contribute to the strengthening of the quality of grants and projects management and to the capacity building of staff and partners
- Programmatic and coordination support to the country office in implementing the new strategic direction of WHH Afghanistan
- Develop, update, and disseminate regularly grants guidelines, resources and tools (Grants Follow up Tracker, etc.)
- Ensure that WHH ProMIS program management system is updated, and relevant functionalities correctly used during the entire project cycle
- Support the Head of Programs in developing donor mapping and fundraising strategies for WHH Afghanistan for the period 2024-2026 as well as researching new funding opportunities
- Manage the Grants to ensure smooth functioning and synergy across the Country Programs in terms of reporting and developing program design
- Lead proposal development and liaise with current and potential future donors in consultation with the Head of Programs, and assigned relevant stakeholders
Your profile
- A bachelor’s or university degree in international development or social sciences
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in emergency and transitional aid programs, ideally in complex contexts affected by conflicts
- Professional experience in fragile contexts is required, with an in-depth understanding of gender, age, and other locally significant socio-cultural factors
- Donor experience, specifically GIZ,BMZ, GFFO, and FCDO
- Good team player, a good sense of humor and experience in mentoring staff
- Proven reporting and organizational skills, with proficiency in writing for different audiences
- Willingness to work in an insecure environment and commitment to adhere to strict security procedures
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and coordination skills
- Willingness to receive necessary vaccinations for working in Welthungerhilfe’s Project countries
- Proficient writing and oral skills in English language, German language skills are an asset
