Protocol of visas for staff, non-staff and visitors remain complex and challenging in Libya due to political and other reasons. Usually, new international staff members and non-staff personnel will first travel to Tunisia and spend a few days before they receive visas for Libya at the Libyan Consulate in Tunisia. This also entails new staff members obtaining resident visas for Tunisia for immigration requirements as well as facilitate IP staff members stay in Tunis when they visit the country for Rest and Recuperation. In addition, any staff, non-staff and visitors arriving at Tripoli must be received by a UNICEF representative at the Immigration at Tripoli Airport. The entire protocol functions require a dedicated full time UNICEF staff.

 

How can you make a difference?

Under the direct supervision and guidance of the Administrative Officer based in Tripoli and in close coordination with the Administrative Associate based in the UNICEF back office at Tunisia, Administrative Assistant (Protocol) will be responsible for executing a broad variety of routine immigration and protocol tasks. Main responsibilities will include:

  1. Liaise with the relevant Government entities (Ministry of Foreign Affairs and/or Protocol unit) for troubleshooting of any protocol related matters.
  2. Assist staff members in processing and following up their requests for visas and other necessary related documents in accordance with the requirement of the United Nations and the Host Country.
  3. Assist in making hotel/guest house reservations for new International staff members, consultants and visitors on duty travel and/or participants to meetings.
  4. Meeting and greeting staff and visitors at the airport and expedite customs and immigration procedures.
  5. Responsible for issuance of protocol routine correspondence, note verbal, reports in accordance with the Government requirements and standard office procedures.
  6. Working closely with Supply & Logistics units and assit in customs clearance of UNICEF supplies and equipments.
  7. Keep track of VISAs of international staff members and facilitate timely renewals.
  8. Any other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Completion of secondary education is required, preferably supplemented by technical or university courses related to the field of work.
  • A minimum of 4 years of work experience relevant to the post.
  • Prior experience of working in the UN or INGOs or Embassies is an advantage.
  • Fluency in both English and Arabic is required.

Government employees that are considered for employment with UNICEF are normally required to resign from their government before taking up an assignment with UNICEF. UNICEF reserves the right to withdraw an offer of appointment, without compensation, if a visa or medical clearance is not obtained, or necessary inoculation requirements are not met, within a reasonable period for any reason.
